Letter from the President and CEO

pres letterThe Trust is committed to providing our grantees with resources and funding to help fund safe, engaging after-school programs in the District. However, due to recent budget reductions, we are challenged in our efforts to support programs for children and youth in the city this year. We need the support of our grantees, parents and the community to continue to expand and improve services and opportunities for children and youth. We hope you can donate to the Trust and help us meet the need for safe, nurturing programs for young people. With your support, we can keep our kids on track for real achievement.

One of our strategies to improve outcomes is youth worker training.  As part of a national network of Building Exemplary Systems for Training (BEST) programs, we provide high-quality trainings to support the growth and development of youth in the District. The centerpiece of DC BEST training, Advancing Youth Development (AYD), is currently offered in five formats tailored to specific audiences, including educators, mentors, coaches, camp counselors, after-school program, parents and other caring adult figures – all of whom play an important role in the lives of DC youth.

Thanks to our AYD trainees, the staff, the board, the providers, funders and our government partners, the Trust has been able to make a real difference in the lives of young residents.  We must build on these successes, and together, make even greater strides to improve outcomes for our children and youth.

Many thanks,
Ellen London
