DC Trust Names Millicent Williams as President and CEO

Former Leader of Serve DC Succeeds Greg Roberts

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Board of the DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation has selected Millicent Williams as the organization’s new president and CEO, succeeding Greg Roberts. Williams began work on July 14. Roberts, who has been president and CEO for the past seven years, is leaving the Trust to become president of the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, KY.

Since January 2007, Williams has been executive director of Serve DC, the District government agency that promotes volunteer and community service activities.  “We are pleased to have Millicent Williams coming on board to give the Trust new leadership,” said Lisa Simpson, board chair.  “She has an excellent track record of working to improve community-based activities to make life better for families and children in the District. We look forward to her building upon the strong progress the Trust made under Greg Roberts’ leadership.”

Serve DC, formally known as the DC Commission on National and Community Service, provides funding and program oversight to AmeriCorps and Learn & Serve America sub-grantees. Serve DC also provides emergency preparedness training and exercise opportunities through the DC Citizen Corps programs.

Williams, 38, held several positions with Serve DC after beginning work there in 2005, from the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) manager, to deputy director of programs.  As the CERT manager, she served as volunteer coordinator and donations manager for the 300-plus evacuees who relocated to the District of Columbia and were housed in the DC National Guard Armory in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.  Williams was named executive director in January 2007.

Prior to joining Serve DC, and in addition to other previous professional opportunities, Williams served for eight years as the general secretary of youth missionaries of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society of the AME Zion Church, providing guidance and instruction to youth and youth leaders locally, nationally and internationally.

The Trust is a public-private partnership chartered by the District to help a wide variety of organizations improve the quality, quantity and accessibility of services and opportunities for every child in the city.  The Trust works to increase resources and invest in the people, programs and systems that serve children, youth and their families in the District of Columbia.
