Washington, DC --DC Children and Youth Investment Corporation is bringing “Lights On Afterschool!” to DC. “Lights On Afterschool!” is a nationwide campaign now in its 9th year, created to bring attention to the need for after-school programs that keep children safe, help working families and inspire learning. This year the Trust and our partners have created an engaging afternoon for policy makers, educators, funders, parents and most of all children to get “up close and personal” with many of the high-quality afterschool programs in the District.
We invite you to join us Thursday October 16th at Columbia Heights Education Campus, 3101 16th Street, NW from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. You will be able to visit a number of exhibits and talk with providers.
Afterschool programs are so important – not only do they engage children and youth during those critical hours between 3 and 6 p.m., but they open new worlds and support learning in vibrant, “hands on” settings outside the classroom. Afterschool programs offer the choice of sports, recreation, performing arts, creative writing and homework help to children and youth in schools, recreation centers and community-based organizations.
Our partners this year include the DC Alliance for Youth Advocates, DC Public Schools, DC Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and the DC Public Libraries. Join us and all the after-school partners to learn more about the work of opportunities for DC children and youth!
This event is being held in conjunction with the 9th annual nationwide Lights on Afterschool sponsored by the Afterschool Alliance. For more information, visit www.afterschoolalliance.org.
