DC Leaders Honor Top High School Football Teams
Luncheon Precedes Turkey Bowl Faceoff
WASHINGTON – In celebration of the 39th annual Turkey Bowl, DC officials will gather to recognize the teams, coaches, cheerleaders and principals of Dunbar and HD Woodson high schools the day before they battle in the DC Interscholastic Athletic Association title game.
One hundred fifty students from the two schools will be treated to a Nov. 26 luncheon at noon at the exclusive Acela Club located in the Verizon Center, 601 F Street, NW. The event, sponsored by the DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation, will feature congratulatory remarks from DC Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray and Council members Yvette Alexander, David Catania, Jack Evans and Tommy Wells. Students will also receive door prizes and a letter of congratulations from Washington Redskin Clinton Portis. The luncheon will be emceed by sports broadcaster Glenn Harris from Newschannel 8.
“We are proud of the dedication and hard work shown by the District’s young athletes,” says Trust President and CEO Millicent Williams, who will also speak at the event. “We would like to honor the students and recognize the importance of sports programs that engage youth in positive, meaningful experiences after school.”
