In partnership with the DC Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services, the Trust is supporting two “lead entities” to spearhead community-wide efforts to help formerly incarcerated youth transition successfully to adulthood.
The Lead Entity/Service Coalition initiative supports community-based organizations to provide and coordinate comprehensive resources for youth who have been involved in the juvenile justice system in their return to their own neighborhood. Currently, there are two lead entities: Progressive Life serving Wards 1-6 and East of the River Clergy Police Community Partnership serving Wards 7 and 8.
These organizations are taking the lead to strengthen networks of local resources and supports comprised of numerous partners providing diverse services including behavioral health services, mentoring, recreation, leadership development, community service and job readiness. This broad-based approach not only strengthens the futures for youth re-entering society and their families, but also for the community as a whole.
